Specs4us is a brand of eyeglasses designed specifically to fit adults and children with Down’s Syndrome and other special needs. Specs4us was founded by Maria Dellapina, who after over 30 years of experience in the optical field, created the eyewear for her daughter, Erin, who has Down’s Syndrome and others like her. Maria, a single mother of four, was frustrated by typical glasses that didn’t really fit Erin’s unique features and always slipped and looked too big.
Close to 87% of children with Down’s Syndrome will need eyeglasses by the time they enter preschool, so after struggling for years to find a pair that fit, Maria decided to use her experience in the optical industry to just create her own. The name Specs4us stands for Superior Precision Eyewear for Children who are special. The customized design includes a bridge that is suitable to fit a low nasal bridge and modified temples to keep the glasses from slipping. The frames are available in a variety of sizes and styles.
